USS SWORDFISH SSN-579 Brass Plaque

USS SWORDFISH SSN-579 - Original Navy Brass plaque. The brass emblem measures 7 1/2 x 8 inches and held in place with 2 bolts from behind. The wood is oak with a metal hanger for support on the wall. There are 2 small blemishes on the wood finish and it will re-finish nicely. The plaque shows lots of dust which tells me this has been hanging around instead of being in storage. I don't really want to let this one go.

USS JAMES C. OWENS DD-776 Original and Heavy brass plaque emblem. Measures 8 inches across and is a whopping 3/4 inch thick. There are 2 tapped holes on the back. USS TECUMSEH SSBN 628 Penguin Lighter

USS TECUMSEH SSBN 628 lighter , made by Penguin. This has the brass finish and shows wear. The latch is loose and functional with a good snap. One side has the submarine emblem , while the other side shows Dolphins insignia. It needs a flint to work.

I would think , if the black was removed , polished brass would be found under neath. In excellent and rare condition , by rare I mean this is an inch thick piece of brass , making one think that this might be an ash tray which it is not.

Questions Answered

Hello to all of my new friends. I'm getting all kinds of questions about how do I know if the plaque is real Navy and not Chinese. Weeeeell , it helps if you've been around the foundry and have seen these brass emblems being made and yes I've been there.

The really big thingie to watch out for today , when someone tells you it's brass , is to ask if it's real brass or brass powder filled resin. You would not believe how many of those other brass plaques are being sold as real brass. What you need is the resin and brass powder. Make a shell inside the mold with your resin/brass mixture and when it hardens , you then pour in a filler material to fill up the mold cavity. Usually , this filler stuff is resin with old washers to give it a heavy feel , mix in some coloring and there you are. I always have a magnet on hand just in case I have a doubt.

I can tell you , I've seen just about everything out there and what I sell here is the real deal. No one has accused me of anything less. Please ask your questions and thank you for stopping by.

USS WAHOO SS-565 Original Brass Plaque. Stands 11 inches tall. In the days , before resin , brass plaques were hand painted to match the unit's jacket patch. This is one of those plaques from ages ago. Some people would call this a Disney figure. The brass emblem is 9/16 inches thick. Has a metal wire on the back for hanging. Plaques like this one are almost impossible to find , in this good of condition.
